In the fourth quarter of 2021, the revenue index of the hotel industry in the Netherlands decreased to 80.4 from 107.4 in the previous quarter (index 2015=100). However, this is an increase compared to the same quarter in the previous year, when the revenue index was 42.3. The
number of hotels in the Netherlands grew steadily since 2007, reaching a peak of 6,235 by the end of 2021.
Hotel guests from Europe
The region Noord-Holland – which includes Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands – hosted the
most hotel guests from Europe with a total of over 1.9 million guests throughout 2021. Zuid-Holland attracted roughly 623 thousand European travelers who stayed in hotel accommodations, whereas roughly 288 thousand hotel guests stayed in the province of Noord-Brabant.
Domestic travelers in the Netherlands
Looking at the
number of hotel nights spent by domestic travelers in different cities of the Netherlands in 2021, Amsterdam was the most visited city that year. The province of
Noord-Holland was frequented by many Dutch travelers, with the region reporting over 2.64 million domestic visitors during 2021. According to both of these graphs, most Dutch visitors were traveling in the country during the third quarter in 2021.
