The relative importance of payment services or instruments as a share of total transactions (in terms of transaction numbers) in Sweden has varied little over the period between 2015 and 2020. As of 2020, card payments were ranked as the most important payment instrument on that market, accounting for almost 61 percent of all transactions. In particular debit cards are of importance in the payment process, accounting for over three billion payments in 2019.
