The number of economically inactive people in Sweden remained around 3.50 million from 2011 to 2021. However, in 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the Swedish economy, the number increased to 3.44 million, up by more than 100,000 since 2019. In 2021, the number decreased slightly but were still higher than pre-COVID.
