As of 2023, there were 2,114 active comprehensive schools in Finland, which was 28 schools less than in the 2022. The capital region of Uusimaa had 503 comprehensive schools, and therefore, this region was the one with the highest number of schools in the country. The second in the list was North Ostrobothnia with 186 schools, followed by Varsinais-Suomi with 179 schools.
