Large businesses are defined by the source as "large retailers employing 100 people or more and those with annual turnover of greater than 60 million British pounds who employ 10 to 99 people." Small businesses are those employing less than 100 people with a turnover lower than 60 million British pounds.

Between 2012 and 2025 the sales value of large non-specialized retailers (such as department stores) in Great Britain increased with some fluctuation and reached to an index point  in 2025. In contrast, the sales value of small non-specialized retailers increased from 2013 onwards and reached to an index point of in 2025.
