This statistic shows the percentage of employees whose workplace had a union present (trade union presence) in the United Kingdom from 1996 to 2018, broken down by sector. In the most recent surveyed time period, 87.7 percent of employees in the public sector worked where there was a union present. In comparison, this figure was 32.3 percent for the private sector. Both sectors, however, saw a decrease in union presence over this period.
