Aircraft engine manufacturing is a capital-intensive industry with few highly-specialized firms. Although Boeing is one of the largest firms in the world, it is not manufacturing engines for its aircraft. Boeing’s aircraft fleet utilize engines manufactured by CFM International, General Electric, Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce and International Aero Engines. As of December 2019, CFM International manufactured engines for over Boeing aircraft. Based on market share, CFM International and Pratt & Whitney were the two major commercial aircraft engine manufacturers in North America as of 2020.
