Energy Transfer is one of the largest oil equipment and service providers worldwide based on revenue. The United States-based company generated billion U.S. dollars in revenues, as of data from August 2025. It was followed by Enterprise Products Partners and Plains All American Pipeline, with the majority of the leading providers coming from North America. 

Operational activities

Headquartered in Dallas, Texas, Energy Transfer was founded in 1995 and primarily deals in the construction of underground pipelines to transport natural gas and crude oil. The company has an extensive infrastructure in the United States and claims to move roughly ** percent of all natural gas and crude oil across the country through their pipelines.

Energy Transfer's Dakota Access Pipeline

In June 2014, Energy Transfer announced the approval of a high-profile project, co-owned in large part by Phillips 66. Also known as the Dakota Access Pipeline, construction of the kilometer-long oil pipeline has received significant media attention for protests towards the end of the Obama administration in 2016 and a court ruling in July 2020 that ordered a temporary shut-down in light of an impending environmental review. The Bakken pipeline draws crude oil from the shale fields of North Dakota’s Bakken formation, extracted through hydraulic fracturing. The U.S. is home to the greatest number of global oil pipelines.
