The Los Angeles Lakers are a professional basketball franchise of the National Basketball Association (NBA) that is part of the league’s Western Conference. The team was started in 1947 and originally located in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Prior to the 1960/61 season, the franchise was moved to Los Angeles. Some of the best players ever to have played in the NBA, such as Jerry West, Earvin ‘Magic’ Johnson, Wilt Chamberlain, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant played for the Los Angeles Lakers franchise during their careers. Current NBA superstar LeBron James has also played at the Lakers since he opted out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2018. The Lakers' championship win in 2020 was in part thanks to James' imperious form, which earned him the NBA Finals MVP award for the fourth time in his career.
