The share of U.S. petroleum imports from OPEC countries amounted to percent in 2024, a decrease when compared to the previous year. In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic and resulting lower transportation fuel demand discouraged many oil traders and resulted in oil benchmarks falling to record lows. OPEC imports have decreased as the U.S. has become more reliant on neighboring Canada for oil imports.
