* During the survey, this question was posed as follows: "How many days in 2010 did you participate in passive outdoor activities, such as picknicking, unstructured playing time, visiting a community park, kite flying, lunch outdoors at a park bench or a short walk at lunch?"
A participant in outdoor recreation is defined as an individual who took part in one or more of 40 outdoor activities at least once during 2009 / 2010. Included in those 40 activities are for example backpacking, bicycling, surfing and fishing.
Data for 2009 is taken from the 2009 participation report.
