Limited transparency regarding commercial activity in China may affect data coverage. China’s announced investment of 136 billion U.S. dollars in emerging technologies was excluded because its relevance to quantum technology was unclear. An additional investment of approximately 15 billion U.S. dollars was excluded because it was announced before 2023.
The figures also exclude Sweden’s investment of 680 million U.S. dollars in research and innovation; a joint United States–Sweden investment of 40 million U.S. dollars in next-generation networks, artificial intelligence, quantum technology and STEM education; and Saudi Arabia’s 6.4-billion-U.S.-dollar investment in future technologies because no quantum-specific breakdown was available. The 2025 investment by Qatar Investment Authority and Bpifrance in Alice & Bob was also excluded due to the absence of an investment breakdown.
Japan’s investment was not exclusively allocated to quantum technology and also included next-generation chip design.
