This statistic shows the distribution of self-employed workers in France in 2021, based on their legal status. More than half of freelancers operated under the auto-entrepreneur status.
An auto-entreprise is a sole proprietorship (EI), a sole proprietorship with limited liability (EIRL), or a single-member limited liability company (EURL) whose sole partner is a natural person managing this company with an option for income tax, registered in a registry and:
- a non-salaried worker (an independent);
- who benefits from a specific social regime, the micro-social;
- who will be subject to the common tax regime of the micro-entrepreneur while being able to opt for the optional tax regime of the withholding tax payment;
- while developing an activity that does not exceed certain revenue thresholds.
