The external dependence of the United States and the European Union on obtaining a significant portion of minerals considered strategic is quite concerning. In the case of the United States, more than ** percent of the rare earth elements needed to manufacture products such as smartphones come from abroad, mainly from China. This situation is even more critical in the European Union, where import dependence reaches 100 percent.
