The new Housing Law, announced by Pedro Sánchez in October 2021, was created to curb the widespread rise in rental prices recorded in Spain since 2015. However, not all regions of the Mediterranean country suffer from this problem equally. As can be seen in the following chart, four autonomous communities have particularly high prices: Catalonia, Madrid, the Basque Country, and the Balearic Islands. In these areas, the average cost per square meter of rental properties is above the national average, with Catalonia standing out especially, where it exceeded more than 14 U.S. dollars.
