Ranking of the main electrical equipment in 2014, based on sales
It happened on January 3, 2012. At that time, Mr. McGillicuddy was living in Leith, on the outskirts of Edinburgh. He was alone in his tidy apartment, having his tea, when a storm hit the Scottish capital: Gusts of kilometers per hour were blowing through the suburban streets, while near the city center, a roaring thunderstorm raged. The wind whipped through the air, cutting power lines and damaging infrastructure. The lights went out and many houses lost electricity. Mr. McGillicuddy shivered from the cold. It was only then that he realized the importance that electricity had for him.
SSE plc and Scottish Power, a subsidiary of Iberdrola, are the two main power plants supplying electricity to the residents of Edinburgh. Iberdrola and SSE are part of the 2014 ranking of the largest electricity-producing companies in the world. With sales nearing billion U.S. dollars, the top of the ranking was Germany’s E.ON, while Exelon was ranked the leading electricity-producing company headquartered in the United States in terms of sales.
