Regarding biogas and methanization, the provides the following explanations: "Methanization is a natural process of biological degradation of organic matter. It can occur naturally in certain environments such as marshes or can be intentionally implemented in dedicated units using industrial equipment. It produces a gas called 'biogas,' mainly composed of methane (50 to 70%) and carbon dioxide. It is the methane contained in the biogas that gives it its energy properties."

This chart shows the number of biomethane injection sites installed in France by region in 2018. It can be seen that in the Hauts-de-France region, there were eleven biomethane injection sites. In 2017, French biofuel production amounted to more than two million tons of oil equivalent.
