*The acronym MSTICIS is used to designate the specialty group Mathematics, Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies, Engineering and Systems. **Carried out according to the P2CA method: estimation of the full cost of a training program taking into account the number of training hours as well as the indirect costs related to the university's shared services (real estate, training support, documentation, etc.). It has also recently been applied by 45 universities across all their training programs, allowing for an insightful comparison of the full cost of training.

Citation formats

This statistic represents the average annual cost of higher education training according to the type, nature of higher education studies, and level of training. It can be observed that public expenditures are much higher for training types such as university technology diplomas (DUT), since almost all types of DUT show higher expenditures than all other types of training combined. The students for whom the most is spent here are those in DUT in the field of mathematics, information and communication science and technology, engineering, and systems (MSTICIS). Conversely, the students for whom the least is spent are those in bachelor's degrees, particularly in social sciences.
It can also be observed that students in "hard sciences" (MSTICIS and life sciences/material sciences, earth and universe sciences) are much better off than those in social sciences, since the expenditure is systematically higher, possibly explained by a higher structural cost.
However, these expenditures remain low compared to those for students in preparatory classes for grandes écoles (CPGE).
