In 2024, the material losses worldwide caused by natural disasters amounted to more than 390 billion U.S. dollars. A large part of these damages were concentrated in America. The hurricane Helene, which affected the United States, Mexico, Cuba, and Honduras, caused damages valued at 56 billion U.S. dollars, while hurricane Milton, which reached areas of the United States and Mexico, resulted in losses of nearly 40 billion. Meanwhile, the destruction caused by the series of tornadoes and severe storms also occurring in the land of opportunity exceeded 6.5 billion, and the fire in Jasper National Park in Canada reached 1 billion.
