The results of the Catalan Parliament elections on May 12, 2024, have marked a turning point within the already complicated political landscape of this community and leave the Presidency of the Generalitat uncertain. The Catalan Socialist Party (PSC) won comfortably—although far from the absolute majority needed to govern alone—while the independence movement experienced a notable decline in support. In this regard, Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) was the most affected force, losing seats compared to the results obtained in February 2021. On the opposite end, right-wing and far-right parties have received a significant boost in these recent elections, especially the PP, which becomes the fourth most voted force in 2024 after gaining seats compared to 2021. Aliança Catalana (AC) has also been very favored. This young far-right independence party enters the chamber with seats.
