According to the "Climate and Resilience" bill (PJL), homes rated E, F, and G will not be allowed to be rented in 2034. Thus, nearly half ( percent) of the current private rental housing stock will then be prohibited from being rented.
The French and Energy Renovation Work
Despite French homes being renovated between 2014 and 2016, only a quarter of these renovations resulted in the property being classified in a better energy category. Furthermore, only half of the French population in 2019 considered energy renovation work necessary. Among the reasons motivating the French to carry out such work in their homes in 2021 were, of course, the desire to reduce energy bills or ecological conviction. Conversely, more than one-third of the French stated that they did not have the right to carry out this work in their homes, and a quarter could not afford it.
The Costs of Energy Renovation Work in France
The budget allocated by the French for energy performance work in their homes was approximately U.S. dollars in 2019. However, there are several types of financial aids that allow the French to carry out energy renovation work without having to pay the full cost immediately. Awareness of these schemes, such as one-euro insulation or the eco-PTZ, can help households undertake this work by saving a considerable amount or by repaying this amount over several months or even years.
