This chart shows the evolution of the number of deaths related to airplane hijackings and deaths that occurred on commercial airliners worldwide between 1946 and 2022. The highest number of deaths related to airplane hijackings can be observed in 2001, due to the September 11 attacks. Regarding accidents on commercial airliners, 1972 and 1985 saw the greatest number of deaths.
