This statistic ranks countries around the world based on the Food Sustainability Index (FSI) of their food system in 2021. This index measures the sustainability of food systems in 78 countries across three key pillars: food loss and waste, agriculture, and nutritional challenges. This statistic focuses on the pillar of food loss (such as discarded bones) and food waste. The higher the index, the more sustainable the food system of the country concerned. Canada, Italy, Germany, and Japan are among the top-performing countries in this pillar. France ranks fifteenth with a score of 74 out of 100. Among the lowest-performing countries are Algeria, Niger, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with scores below 40 points.
