As of June 12, 2022, around 6.3 million people had died worldwide as a result of COVID-19. While in Asia, the continent where the outbreak originated, the death toll was around 1.3 million people, deaths in Europe exceeded that figure by more than 690,000 people. Specifically, approximately two million deaths from the coronavirus have been recorded in the Old Continent. However, it is no longer the continent with the highest number of COVID-19 fatalities. The number recorded in the Americas already exceeded 2.7 million deaths on that day.
