The last-minute suspension of the euthanasia procedure for Martha Sepúlveda, who suffers from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), has caused an uproar in Colombia. According to the results of a real-time survey from October 2021, nearly three-quarters of the Colombian population supports the right to assisted death.
Had it been carried out, Martha would have been the first person to exercise this right in the Andean country, although euthanasia has been decriminalized in Colombia since 1997 and legally regulated since 2015.
