This statistic represents the evolution of the Reporters Without Borders press freedom index in France from 2013 to 2024. The overall index takes into account five aspects: political, economic, legislative, social, and security.

The sharp decline recorded in 2016 is explained by the fact that some reporters receive police protection due to threats posed by Islamist terrorists, who attacked Charlie Hebdo in 2015 and again in 2020 in front of its former offices. In 2020, France experienced complaints from journalists about police violence and assaults by protesters, notably during the yellow vests crisis.
