The mobile phone is gaining ground over the landline phone among the younger generations. In 2021, one-third of 15 to 29-year-olds owned only a mobile phone and only 0.5 percent owned only a landline phone, whereas people aged 75 and over are more likely to have only a landline phone than only a mobile phone. The vast majority of French people, across all age groups, own both a landline phone and a mobile phone.
