The state of the Mediterranean fishing stocks is dire. More than half of the commercial fish and shellfish stocks did not meet any of the Good Environmental Status (GES) criteria from 2020 to 2023, which considers fishing mortality and reproductive capacity. The Eastern Mediterranean was the subregion with the worst scenario, where **** of the stocks did not meet any of the GES criteria.
