The number of home health agencies (HHA) in the United States has been decreasing since the peak in 2013, when there were active agencies*. As of 2023, the number of HHAs has dropped to , the lowest in the recorded time period.

In comparison, only around 85 to 90 percent of these active HHAs treat traditional Medicare beneficiaries**. As of 2024, there were agencies treating traditional Medicare beneficiaries.
