In the school year 2023/2024, more than 960,000 teachers were working in Italian public schools. The number has progressively increased since 2015, with around 120,000 new teachers hired in seven years. However, this corresponded to an increase in job insecurity, as the share of personnel with temporary contracts steadily rose, reaching almost one fourth of the total teaching staff in 2024.
