In 2019, it was estimated that around 539 million non-pregnant women worldwide had anemia. At that time, South Asia had the highest number of non-pregnant women with anemia. Anemia is a condition in which a person does not have enough healthy red blood cells to effectively carry oxygen throughout the body. There are many different types of anemia including iron deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia, and hemolytic anemia.
