In 2019, South Asia had the highest number of women with anemia worldwide. At that time, around 234 million women in South Asia had anemia. Anemia is a condition in which a person does not have enough healthy red blood cells to effectively carry oxygen throughout the body. There are many different types of anemia including iron deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia, and hemolytic anemia.
