In 2019, South Asia and West and Central Africa had the highest prevalence of anemia among women worldwide. At that time, around half of women in South Asia had anemia. Anemia is a condition in which a person does not have enough healthy red  blood cells to effectively carry oxygen throughout the body. There are many different types of anemia including iron deficiency anemia, megaloblastic anemia, and hemolytic anemia. This statistic shows the prevalence of anemia among women aged 15 to 49 years worldwide in 2000 and 2019, by region.
