A so-called golden visa or residency permit for investors (ARI) is a permit for entry and residence in Portugal granted to foreign citizens who are not nationals of the European Union or are residents outside the Schengen Area, in exchange for a large financial investment. Until October 2023, this financial investment could be the acquisition of real estate, among others. From then on, this possibility was excluded.
