About ** percent of women in households with children under *** participate in the labor market, while men have a participation rate of about ** percent. The largest gap lies within Central Asia and Southern Asia, where ** percent of women and ** percent of men participate in the labor market, and Northern Africa and Western Asia, where ** percent of women and ** percent of men participate in the labor market. Such gaps reflect the prominence of gender roles and the amount of unpaid, domestic labor performed by women.
