2013: n=3,612

2018: n=3,094

Questionnaires were distributed in person and, in exceptional cases, mailed to absent households. Completed questionnaires were collected in person or submitted by mail or via the online survey system of the government.

The statistic shows the share of respondents who live with either of the married couples' parents.

According to a survey conducted in July 2022 among married women in Japan, household tasks were not evenly distributed between spouses. Wives reported performing over ** percent of the household duties in their marriage. The share of household chores conducted by husbands has slightly increased over the past decades.
