In 2023, the Cerro Largo region was the area in Uruguay with the thrid highest percentage of people living impoverished, at 17.4 percent. Rivera was the second poorest region with approximately 18.5 percent. Uruguay's capital, Montevideo, rounded out the top three with nearly 12.8 percent of its residents living in poverty.
