Germany and France were the European Union (EU-27) member countries with most of the construction waste in 2022. While Germany generated * million metric tons of construction waste, those figures amounted to nearly * million metric tons in France. Overall, the waste generated by the construction industry in the EU-27 had been increasing between 2014 and 2018, but it dropped again in 2020. That decrease may be partly explained by the lower production levels in the EU's construction sector that year.
