In 2023, global systematically important banks had most of the exposure to non-performing loans in the euro area and other EU countries under the single supervisory mechanism. Universal and investment banks were exposed to 90.5 billion euros worth of non-performing loans and advances. Large banks were more exposed to non-performing loans in the EU than those with assets under 200 billion euros.
