In the financial year 2023/24, estradiol was the most dispensed hormone replacement therapy (HRT) prescription item in England, with roughly five million items dispensed. HRT medications are primarily used for treating symptoms of menopause and perimenopause. Furthermore, around 2.4 million items of estradiol with progestogen were dispensed in 2022/23.
