Belarus was the leading exporter of goods to Russia among the presented near abroad countries in July 2022. In that month, Belarus exported goods worth approximately two billion U.S. dollars to Russia, which was 63 percent higher than the value of exports in January 2022. Furthermore, a significant growth was recorded in Kyrgyzstan's export value. The exports from the country to Russia tripled between January and July 2022.

Among the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the leading import origin of Russia was Belarus. In 2021, Russia imported merchandise worth over 15.6 billion U.S. dollars from Belarus.
