This statistic highlights gender differences in this figure. The SSN spent more money per capita on men than on women. The average cost for men affected by at least one chronic disease amounted to 690 euros per year, while for women this figure was equal to 668 euros. 
These figures take into account all the public healthcare services offered to chronic disease patients, including the costs of prescription drugs covered by public health insurance.
