For the 2021 to 2023 period, the calorie equivalent of available food staples (cereals, roots, tubers, and pulses) came to over 1,353.44 kilocalories per person per day in low-income countries. This figure was lower in high income countries, where staples provided overall less calories but were combined with comparatively high calorie equivalents in animal products, fats, sweeteners, and other food products.
