Changes in emergency visits because of health issues due to opioid poisoning and opioid use disorder during the outbreak of COVID-19 differed depending on the month in analysis. However, differences, between 2020 and the year prior, were present for every month. The biggest variation was observed in the ED visits related to opioid poisoning in the month of September, where there was an increase of ** percent in 2020 compared to 2019. This graph shows the percentage change in the number of people who visited the emergency department in Canada because of opioid poisoning and opioid use disorder, in the period from March to September 2019 and March to September 2020, by month.
