From 2019 to 2020 the differences in preterm birth rates among various races in United States remained relatively unchanged. The highest percentage of preterm births occurred among black mothers, with 12.18 percent of all births among this group delivered preterm in 2020. The lowest rates of preterm births were found among white and Asian mothers. This graph shows the differences in preterm birth rates by the mother's race in 2019 and 2020 in the United States. Preterm births are those delivered prior to 37 weeks of gestation.
