One liter of diesel cost around eurocents to car drivers in Germany in 2020. This meant that over ** percent of the price of one liter of diesel went into taxes, with excise duties costing on average eurocents. During that same period, ** percent of the price for one liter of super went into taxes. In March 2022, the German government announced measures to reduce fuel tax, including reducing taxes by ** cents per liter for diesel and ** cents per liter for gasoline.
