There were nearly 2.61 million unemployed people in Egypt in 2022. Of those, 50 thousand men more than women were in the labor force but not working. The number was lowest in 2019 when 1.12 million women and 1.08 million males were unemployed in the country. Overall, unemployment in Egypt dropped from 2014 to 2019 and then increased slightly in recent years.
