The COVID-19 pandemic, and the restrictions adopted by national governments to contain it, brought about the mass-consumption of new products. This statistic shows the development over time of weekly sales value of three products related to the pandemic in Italian pharmacies. It is possible to note a surge in revenue grossed by pharmacies between the last weeks of 2021 and the first weeks of 2022. This period coincides with the fourth wave of the pandemic in Italy, the one in which the highly contagious Omicron variant was dominant. In particular, COVID-19 tests became increasingly sought after, with pharmacies earning as much as ** million euros per week from their sale during the first three weeks of 2022. Over the first nine months of 2022, Italian pharmacies grossed **** million euros in hand sanitizers sales, million euros in face masks sales, and *** million euros in COVID-19 tests sales.
