In 2021, the United States' foreign direct investments (FDI) position in Ukraine came to approximately 532 million U.S. dollars. This can be compared to the U.S. FDIs in Russia which amounted to 12.3 billion U.S. dollars in the same year. Foreign direct investments are defined as ownership by a U.S. investor of at least 10 percent of a foreign business. The direct investor is known as a U.S. parent, and the U.S.-owned foreign business is known as a foreign affiliate.
