The Direct Gross Value Added (GVA) of the tourism industry in South Africa reached close to 196.71 billion South African rands in 2019 (comparable to nearly 12.95 billion U.S. dollars). Accommodation for visitors and the air passenger transportation industry registered higher shares of 15.6 percent and 7.9 percent, respectively. Moreover, non-tourism industries contributed over 48 percent to the Tourism Direct Gross Value Added (TDGVA).
